Crestone, CO - Homes for Sale and Community Information
Crestone is a small village of under 150 residents, located in Saguache County, Colorado. It is at the foot of the western slope of the Sangre de Cristo Range, in the northern part of the San Luis Valley. The Crestone area, which includes the Baca Grande, is a spiritual and new age center with several world religions represented, including: a Hindu temple, a Zen center, a co-ed Carmelite monastery, several Tibetan centers, and miscellaneous New Age happenings.
Crestone was a small mining town, but little paying ore was discovered. In the 1970s, a large land development, the Baca Grande, was established to the south and west and several hundred homes have been built.
The eastward Burnt Gulch discovery of gold helped to pave the way for growth, and this led to real estate opportunities within the area after the it became established in 1880. By 1901, the area had a railroad and many residents from all walks of life resided within the area, including teachers, doctors, ministers, bankers, and lawyers.
